Nigel Cooke
---
Counsellor & Psychotherapist

My approach to working with clients is not a one-size-fits-all. I work in a supportive and collaborative way to find the best solutions for the individual, enabling them to discover their own internal understanding and sense of self. I fervently believe each individual, given the right support, can access their own internal resources, and learn to support themselves.

What does this mean for you?

Firstly, it is important to remember that whatever you are going through, you're not broken. It's normal to experience feelings of anxiety, depression, fear, despair, hopelessness, isolation, anger, or even numbness. These are all ways your mind and body communicate with you.

Secondly, by creating a safe and supportive environment where you can slow down, reflect, and feel, you will be able to gain a clearer understanding of your experience. This will allow you to make any necessary adjustments and adapt to a better version of yourself.

Furthermore, counselling is helpful not because of any specific techniques or approaches, but because of real human-to-human contact. Finding your voice and knowing you are being heard can be an incredibly power experience. Remember that this is your life, and you have a say in how you live it. I'm here to help by listening and responding to your voice and your needs.

During the first meeting, I explain how I work and gain an understanding of the issues likely to be addressed in therapy. I offer both short and long-term face-to-face counselling (see Services).

My practice is on Ransome's industrial estate, easily accessible just off the A14. It is a quiet and confidential setting.

Alongside four years of full-time experiential study, both as a client and therapist, I also have two years experience as a practising counsellor at Suffolk Mind, Bury St. Edmunds and more recently in private practice. Along with a sound theoretical framework, I have 59 years of life experience.

My client base presents with a broad range of issues. And my training covers several different modalities for me to draw upon, such as Humanistic, Psychotherapy, and Existential. But don't worry these are just tools, methods, to help understand and  communicate better. The real key to therapy is building a relationship where you can express yourself in your way. It is my experience, supported by experts and client responses, that finding ones voice and being listened to is a powerful means to bring about change.

All evidence suggests that Face-to-Face sessions have a greater effect in facilitating therapeutic change. However, I appreciate Face-to-Face is not always possible. So I also offer online sessions if we agree we have the right "chemistry" to work well remotely. Regardless of delivery, working together and developing a good working relationship will be key.

Sessions are typically 50-60 minutes.

Cost: £55 per session.

Payment by bank transfer (details will be supplied). Prompt payment on the day, or following,  would be appreciated.  before the next appointment. You may also pay cash on the day.

I offer a limited number of concessions.
